Adult and adolescent adhd assessment in thunder bay

Clear, Affirming Answers when Focus, Overwhelm, or Burnout Have Been Affecting Your Life

If you’ve been wondering whether you might have ADHD, you’re not alone.

Many adults reach this point after years of struggling with focus, organization, motivation, or emotional overwhelm, often being told it’s anxiety, stress, or just part of their personality. For some, those explanations never fully fit.

At Affirming Mental Health Services, we provide comprehensive ADHD assessments for adults and adolescents in Thunder Bay. Our goal is to offer clear, respectful, and evidence-based answers so you can better understand how your brain works and what support may help.

What ADHD Can Look Like in Adults

ADHD is often misunderstood, especially in adults. It does not always look like hyperactivity.

You might notice:

  • Difficulty starting or finishing tasks, even when they matter to you
  • Feeling overwhelmed by daily responsibilities
  • Chronic procrastination or “last-minute panic” productivity
  • Trouble focusing unless something is highly interesting or urgent
  • Forgetfulness, disorganization, or losing track of time
  • Emotional intensity, frustration, or burnout

Many people we work with have spent years adapting, masking, or blaming themselves before considering ADHD as a possibility.

Why Get an ADHD Assessment?

A formal ADHD assessment can provide:

  • Clarity about whether ADHD is present
  • A better understanding of your strengths and challenges
  • Personalized recommendations for work, school, and daily life
  • Documentation that may support academic or workplace accommodations
  • Guidance for next steps, including therapy, coaching, or medical consultation

For many people, the biggest shift is finally understanding why things have felt harder than they should.

Our Approach: Affirming, Thorough, and Collaborative

  We take your concerns seriously.

Our assessments are:

  • Neurodiversity-affirming, not pathologizing
  • Grounded in current psychological research
  • Tailored to your experiences, not just a checklist
  • Respectful of cultural, gender, and identity-based factors

We are also explicitly 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming, and we understand that many neurodivergent individuals have had invalidating or dismissive experiences in healthcare settings.

You will not be brushed off or told “it’s just anxiety” without a thorough evaluation.

What to Expect

 Step 1: Intake Appointment ($200)

This is a comprehensive clinical interview where we review your history, current concerns, and goals.

Step 2: Testing Sessions ($400-$800 each)

We use standardized psychological measures to assess attention, executive functioning, and related areas.

Step 3: Feedback Session

You’ll receive a clear explanation of your results, including whether ADHD is present, along with personalized recommendations.

A written report is provided following your assessment.

Not Sure if it's ADHD?

You’re not expected to have this figured out before reaching out.

Some clients come in wondering about ADHD and discover other factors, such as anxiety, trauma, or autism. Others find that ADHD explains patterns they’ve struggled with for years.

If you’re unsure, we can help guide that process.

ADHD vs. Autism

There is significant overlap between ADHD and autism, especially in adults who were not identified earlier in life.

If you are wondering about both, we can discuss whether a broader assessment would be helpful.
